Charleen Armstrong Pettiet passed away on April 20, 2021 at the age of 84 surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. Charleen was born on June 13, 1936 in Ropesville, Texas to Marshall and Kathleen Armstrong. She grew up in Ropesville and graduated from Ropes High School in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Alton “Pete” Pettiet, at First Baptist Church of Ropesville on June 6, 1954.

Except for a twelve year period when she and Pete lived in the Texas Panhandle, Charleen lived in the Ropesville Community all of her life. Charleen worked at the Ropes School tax office, was a farmer’s wife, and then ended her work career as an Insurance Agent with Germania Insurance Company after thirty-one years.

Charleen accepted Jesus as her savior as young girl and loved serving others at her church and in her community. She served on the Ropes Cemetery Association, Ropes Senior Citizens Board, the Hockley County Historical Association, and as Director of Hockley County Senior Citizen Board.

Charleen is survived by her husband, Alton “Pete” Pettiet, of Ropesville, Texas; her daughter, Cliffa Herron (Grady), of Brownfield, Texas; her son Bradley Pettiet (Karon) of Lubbock, Texas; her sister Sandra McNabb of Ropesville, Texas; five grandchildren, Micah Riddle (Curtis) of Dallas, Texas, Tyler Herron of Austin, Texas, Lauren Thacker (Kevin) of SE Asia, Jordon Hickner (Brian) of Great Falls, Montana, and Emily Stabeno (Kadon) of Williamsburg, Virginia; five great grandchildren, Regan Riddle, Nytlie Herron, Rhett Riddle, Nora Hickner, and Riley Thacker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Kathlean Armstrong, and great granddaughter, Karsyn Lee Thacker.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock. Services will be on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ropesville with burial to follow at the Ropesville Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to Alton “Pete” and Charleen Pettiet Honorary Scholarship at South Plains College at 1401 S. College Ave., Levelland, Texas 79336.
