The family of Charles Ray Smith will celebrate his life of 82 years at 10:30 am on Monday, September 28, 2020, at East Hester Church of Christ, Brownfield, TX, followed by burial in the Meadow Cemetery. The family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. Charles Ray Smith was born November 23, 1937, to D.R. and Frankie Smith in Loraine, Texas. He attended Meadow schools and graduated in 1956. He worked his whole life as a farmer, side by side with his brother Bob farming for his dad, later farming his own land. He loved his God and was a loyal member of the Church of Christ in Brownfield, later serving the congregation as an Elder. He was dearly loved by his church family. He served on numerous boards, including the Meadow ISD School Board, Meadow Booster Club and was very involved in numerous community activities. His love for his family was immeasurable. He loved and spoiled his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He never turned down the opportunity to see them, help them, keep them, or attend any activity they might be involved in. But the love of his life was his cherished wife, who he affectionately called “Tink.”
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Meadow; daughters Kim Bayer of Meadow; Mitzi and husband Riky Streety of Meadow; and Debbie and husband Shawn Sales of Imperial. Seven grandchildren, Bandi and husband Justin Norman; Beau and wife Rachel Bayer; Brooke and husband Jordan Stegemoeller; Stoney and wife Ashley Streety; Tanner Streety; Courtney Sales and Connor Sales. Eleven great-grandchildren, Breely, Jaxon, and Kason Norman; Rylan, Hayden, and Hudson Stegemoeller; Kambry, Jaden, and Kolby Streety; and Bridger and Broderick Bayer.
Brother-in-law, Dale Andrews, and sister-in-law, Genevra Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, D.R. and Frankie Smith, one brother, Robert Smith, and two sisters, Ruby Andrews and Betty Askew, and brother-in-law, R.B. Askew.
The family would like to thank all of the family and friends that have reached out to us at this time. A special thanks to David Funk and his wife for their years of help on the farm and for always being there with a helping hand day or night. Also, thank you to his patient and loving home caregivers, Janie, Jacque, Dawn, and Esmarelda.
