City Of Brownfield Council Meeting: Tickets Down/Traffic Up

by Eric

This morning’s City of Brownfield Council meeting was adjourned with all approvals and acceptance. A few highlights listed are turning points for the community.

After the quarterly  financial report from the Chamber of Commerce, the city council moved to item number 16. The council approved this item as written. “Consider Commitment Resolution for the upgrade of the city ballfields located in Coleman Park beginning January 2019”. There was no discussion on this item.

The council then moved to consider reports from law enforcement. Brownfield’s Chief of Police Tony Serbantez reported since TXDOT raised the speed limits in certain parts of Brownfield and despite  traffic rising, number of traffic tickets are down. He announced civil matters are slightly down from November and citations are down this quarter as well. The Chief of Police emphasized about the program Community Safe, he’s thriving for a “clean and compliant community”.

City of Brownfield Code Enforcement Officer Kitha Tankersley reported the month of December citations were down. She did report there are still properties around town that need to be cleaned up. The city council asked what can be done to make sure issues are addressed to be enforced more thoroughly. The objective is to have a clean town.

The city council approved to have municipal elections to be held on Saturday May 5, 2018. It is important for citizen participation to go beyond voting. Citizens of this community can participate by making your elected representatives aware of your concerns. So remember to go vote.

City of Brownfield Recreation Director Scott Jackson reported improvements are being made and town parks are being used. Jackson announced there are dead trees in town parks that need to be cut and anyone who needs firewood could contact city hall. Mayor Tom Hesse also spoke about how you can participate in a program to buy and dedicate a tree in memory of someone for the city parks. For more information contact the city hall.

Meeting then was adjourned
