City Power guys getting the job done

by admin

The City of Brownfield Electric Department works hard all the time, as do all the various departments of the City. These different departments often work hand in hand together to solve problems and clean up situations that crop up.

On Friday morning, the power guys were high. High up in the air, that is, as they installed three 600 pound transformers to poles behind the new Dollar General being built on East Tahoka Road.

Department Supervisor Cat Gonzales said, “Each one of these weighs 600 pounds. They are held on to the frame on the pole by two bolts each. The frames are held on to the poles by bolts, as well. We really have to trust our equipment in situations like this.”

The situation was that one bucket truck was raising the transformers, one at a time. These transformers are then handed off to a second guy in a bucket truck who bolts them into place. Then the process starts again.

After the installation of the transformers, all the hook up work begins, in order to get power to the new store, which is rumored to be opening by the end of October, right now.

Lots of trust in lots of equipment and each other. We need to be able to have that kind of trust in each other on a daily basis. Right?

Thanks to the City Departments that take such good care of us! (Also, notice the pink hard hats in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!)
