PAC Show and commentary with Dan Jackson and special guest Dustin Burrows

Politics is a many splendored thing to say the least. I’m pretty open about my political views and am proud of being a conservative. Well last weekend I saw a post by a cousin of mine in California. Now Danny is a quite guy and is a proud Vietnam Veteran, and a very active member of the Democratic Party. His post was aimed at the President and his immigration stance. Well, I felt I needed to respond…

WOW, since I posted my take I’ve been inundated with responses from his friends in sunny California. So much to the effect that I never got to finish with a second post, that might have made his left leaning friends understand my poing and where I was coming from a little better. I was immediately hit with, “Quit watching Fox News!” and “you need to dig deeper”…Well, what his friends didn’t know is while I do read news on Fox, I don’t depend solely on Fox News for my world or national view. I read lots and try to keep up the best I can. I have definite views about many things and it would be very hard to change my opinion on much. But al lof this has made me relize a few things that I want to touch on today…

First, my cousin Danny is a great guy, he has a beautiful wife, he is a Dad, and a Grandfather. He travles a great deal and enoys life. He was raised over at Spur, and at one point wnated to be an Ag Teacher. Well life happened and he went to Vietnam and while I don’t know his entire career path, he’s worked for the USPS, and his last stop was Netflix I believe. He’s living the dream and being the man his is, he is politically active. He’s protetsted in Washington, DC and is very active in California politics where he makes his home. Now while Danny’s friends worked on me pretty hard, and I worked on them right back and then a cool thing happened yesterday. Cousin Danny posted a great note to his friends, and I’m paraphrasing a bunch for time here, but basically he said, “Dan is my cousin and while we have opposing political views be respctful in your responses.”

Maybe we on both sides need to be more respectful in our responses and how we talk to each other. I’m never going to move my views to the left, and I’m sure Danny won’t be changing his views to the right either, but if we can all be respectful of what the other guy thinks maybe we could all find some middle ground. Used to be in Washington there was a middle group in both parties, and that bunch got stuff worked out and done. Now it seems everyone is far left or far right and no one wants to legislate. Maybe a little less working to get the soundbite on the nightly news to make the other side look bad, and maybe more of looking for something or somewhere we can find common ground. I’m not talking biving up your beliefs I’m talking about civility and diplomacy. At the local, state and national levelworking to make things better all around. Now will we all sit together and sing Kumbaya, NO, but, we could learn its okay to disagree and still be friends. We seem to have forgotten that, and, maybe a return to not being offened or holding the my way or the highway stance would help…

Just maybe Danny “Corky” Jackson hit the nail on the head…just be respectful…just maybe….
