Commissioners Court Meets October 11, Hears Monthly Reports from the Tax Assessor/Collector and Treasurer

Due to Monday falling on Columbus Day Commissioners Court met on Tuesday, October 11, where they addressed their weekly agenda.

In the absence of County Judge Jim Barron, Precinct #1 Commissioner Woody Lindsey conducted the meeting.

Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish gave her monthly report. She informed the Commissioners that her office had collected $14,457.76 during the month of September. Her report was unanimously approved by the Court.

County Treasurer Barbara Wright also gave her monthly report for both August and September. For the month of August the county had a beginning balance of $44,933,350.88 and an ending balance of $44,298,700.83. In September the county had a beginning balance of $44,298,700.83 and an ending balance of $42,938,356.79. Her two reports were also unanimously approved by the Commissioners.

Barbara Wright also ask for the Commissioners approval for the promotion of Yvonne Droogsma from 2nd deputy position to 1st deputy in the Treasurers’ office effective September 25, 2016. This was also unanimously approved by the Court.

The Commissioners also unanimously approved reports from JP #2, County and District Clerks office, and the Sheriff’s Department.

The next item concerned approving a Petition to Leaco Rural Telephone for the right and authority to bore, lay, construct, install, occupy, use, operate, maintain, repair, replace and remove fiber optic cable between Hwy 380 at Fiber Light Hand Hole and Sheriff’s Office at Lea County Electric power pole. After several minutes of discussion between the Commissioners it was decided to table this item until Commissioner Tim Addison could get further information about this request.

And in the next item, which was consideration and taking action on granting pipeline right of way agreement between Yoakum County and Monadock Resources, another lengthy discussion took place. It was finally decided this item would also be tabled until CDA Bill Helwig could look it over.

The Court finally agreed to unanimously approve a petition to Braden McWhirter for the right and authority to bore, lay, construct, install, occupy, use, operate, maintain, repair, replace and remove casing under CR 220 and CR 165 Yoakum County Texas.

There was one request for the disposal of a calculator, nine item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.

Commissioner Ray Marion reported that work on the new Denver City Community Building has once again resumed.

In auditing and settling all accounts against the County the court approved to pay all bills from the General Fund which totaled $43,600.87, Precinct #1 bills totaled $10,134.83, Precinct #2 bills totaled $58,504.26, Precinct #3 bills totaled $18,109.40, and Precinct #4 bills totaled $3,365.26. Other bills included $742.21 to Juvenile Probation/TJPCA, $455.59 was paid from the Law Library, $1,218.90 to the Yoakum County Landfill, and $77.85 was paid to the Library Grants Fund for a grand total of $136,209.17.

Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Ty Earl Powell, and Tim Addison were all in attendance. County Judge Jim Barron was attending a conference and was not in attendance.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, October 17, in the County Courthouse starting at 10 am.
