District 3-2A Volleyball began their season last night with the Plains Cowgirls and Wellman-Union Lady Cats opening district play with wins. If you’re not familiar with 2A and 1A volleyball, schools from both classes are joined in a district and then when the playoffs come up they split into their respective classes. However, all games in district count even if the two classes go up against each other.

Plains had a great night with Senior #3 Lliana Parra having eight kills. The Cowgirls had a three-set sweep for the match win. In the first set, Plains allowed 15 points from Aspermont and came out on top 25-15. In the second and third sets, the Cowgirls didn’t look back with their set wins. The second set was 25-12 and the third set was 25-8.

The Wellman-Union Lady Cats struggled more than their district foe however, they got the three-set sweep match win over the Loop Lady Horns. The first set against Loop was a breeze for the Lady Cats after scoring the 12th point, they sailed to a 25-12 set win. The next two sets were not as easy. In the second set WU got out to an early lead, however, the Lady Longhorns were not going to go down as easy as they did in the first set managing to even the score 22-22.  The Lady Cats managed to pull out a set victory 25-22.

In the third set, the Lady Cats found themselves down 10-5 pretty quick. WU did tie it up 10-10 with Madison White serving. Loop took the 11th point and the Lady cats respond with a point of their own evening the score to 11. Both team traded points till the Lady Cats began pulling away 20-13, and Loop then mounted a come back to make the score 24-24. Again both teams matched points to a 27-27 tie. WU responded with two quick points making the score 29-27 and winning the match.

Next up, Plains will travel to Klondike on Saturday the 8th and game times will be 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Wellman-Union will be hosting Post on Saturday the 8th and will begin to play at 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
