Although the rain fell hard Friday night it would not stop the Plains Cowgirls and the Wellman-Union Lady Cats on Saturday as both teams continue to get closer to the playoffs.

The Plains Cowgirls continue their dominance in district staying perfect after a three-set sweep over Loraine. Saturday’s win against the Lady Bulldogs was somewhat simple and easy, even though the girls were tired from the football game Friday night. Coach Wilson told TownTalk Sports, “Some plays were slow but we still had a big lead in every set.” This match has given the Cowgirls a perfect 10-0 district record and is now ranked 20th in the state.

The Cowgirls will try to continue with their hot record when they face up with Rotan. “Rotan is the only team we’ve gone 4 sets within district.” Coach Wilson said.  Rotan is tied in the third position with Wellman-Union and can play with some spark and could possibly knock off the Cowgirls perfect district record. Coach Wilson said “The girls know they’ll have to stay intense and to not discount Rotan’s abilities. We are looking forward to the challenge.” The Cowgirls will host the Lady Hammers tomorrow evening with a 6:00 PM serving time.

The Lady Cats of Wellman-Union got an important district win Saturday against the first place team (for 1A schools) of Aspermont. The Lady Cats took out the Lady Hornets in a three-set sweep 25-22, 25-21, & 25-14. The last time the two met up Aspermont went home with the match victory after five sets. Coach Tells said, “Saturday was a big win for us. Aspermont is 1st in district (not counting Plains and post). Each player pulled their weight and we played with energy and purpose.”

The Lady Cats take on Klondike tomorrow evening in a classic showdown. It will be Senior Night for WU and they are looking to get one more district win under their belt. In the first round of district play, the Lady Cats fell to Klondike in four sets. Coach Tells spoke about the last game with Klondike. “Klondike beat us in 4 first round but we didn’t play at our potential and ran out of energy. Getting a win could help us secure a spot in the playoffs.” Coach Tells said. If the Lady Cats can beat Klondike tomorrow night and come away with a victory over Loriane and Rotan then WU would be tied for second with Klondike. The playoffs take the top three teams from both classes of 2A & 1A from the district. First serve tomorrow night is slated for 6:00 PM.
