Cub Powerlifters have great meet

At the Cubs powerlifting meet held at the Cub Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 20, both the Cubs and Lady Cubs were a power house. They were there in force, helping each other, encouraging each other and cheering each other on. It was a great sight to see. All Cub Powerlifters are coached by Coach Jacob Perez.

Perez said, “I am so very proud of our progress. We just didn’t know what this season would look like. After COVID stopped us last year, and then having no summer workouts, we just didn’t know what to expect. The boys and girls both came in mornings and afternoons and worked hard to improve themselves daily.”

On the Cubs’ side:

1st Place – Pancho Garza

1st Place – Rogelio Garza

1st Place – Kesean Dever

1st Place – Sean Castillo

3rd Place – Fernando Mendez

Lady Cubs:

2nd Place – Jennifer Acosta

3rd Place – Zeriah Gomez

1st Place – Marisol Morales

2nd Place – Camila Solis

2nd Place – Jalysa Carrillo

2nd Place – Kaylee Alvarado

2nd Place – Aubree Valenzuela

Five girls have qualified for Regional. The boys will find out who their qualifiers will be next week. Girls qualifying are Mya Romero, Marisol Morales, Aubree Valenzuela, Jennifer Acosta, and Camila Solis.

Perez stated, “We have focused on getting better with every lift and better every week. We work hard on setting new Personal Records each week. We work hard on getting our totals better each week. The guys come in after football offseason and working so hard there, and just get right after the work in powerlifting without missing a beat. This has been such a great group to work with. They work so hard every single day. I am so proud.”

Girls Regional will be at Kermit on March 6. Boys Regional will be at Sundown on March 13.

We are proud of you Cubs!
