The Cub football team over came some early struggles to defeat San Angelo Lakeview in last Friday nights contest.
The Cubs got off to a rocky start after a mishap on the punt team in their first drive that caused a safety. Lakeview then got the ball and scored again to go up 8-0 early in the 1st quarter. The cub offense could not get rolling and punted again on their second possession. The chiefs however were firing on all cylinders and scored again taking a 16-0 lead early in the ball game. Things looked bleak for the Cubs at this point but started to turn around as the Cub offense began to move the ball on the ground and through the air. The cubs outscored the chiefs in the second quarter 3-1 and trailed 23-20 at the half.
The Cubs came out in the second half with a game plan to run the ball early and capitalized as they moved the ball down inside the 10 on 7 straight run plays. The Cubs took their first lead but it was short lived as the chiefs converted a long third down pass play to take the lead back. It was close throughout the remainder of the game until the Cubs scored their final go ahead touchdown with 1:40 left to go in the game with the score 38-37. The chiefs had a great kickoff return to the 45 and then completed two pass plays getting them to the Cub 30 yard line. A false start pushed them back to the 35 and with 7 seconds left they sent their field goal kicker out. The kick was wide left and short and that Cubs claimed their second victory of the season.
It was a great game for the cubs and they look to use that momentum this Friday as the 4-2 Seminole Indians come to town Friday night.
