Cubs take the WIN over Kermit!

In a game that was a back and forth battle at the beginning, the Brownfield Cubs wore down the Kermit Yellowjackets to earn a 48 – 25 victory.

The game started off tough as Kermit performed an onside kick flawlessly to start the game. The Jackets fell on the ball, but were not able to convert. The Cubs took over and on the first Cub offensive play of the game, Cub QB Zarius Garcia kept the ball and swung left to scamper down the field for a Cub TD. JD Vasquez was money as he converted on the extra point, and every extra point all night long.

The Cubs fought hard and executed well all night long.

Kaden Wise had a pick six on the night and played a great ballgame all night long. Kaden later would have another interception.

JC Carillo played well and ran a punt in for a touchdown. He was instrumental in breaking up several passes on defense.

Joshua Gonzales showed his speed as he ran down the field for a touchdown, and had several gains on carries throughout the game.

Senior Patricio Garcia saw his number called and he entered the game at a run with a crowd and his teammates cheering him on. The team was so proud to see Patricio on the field. In the post game huddle, JC addressed the team and spoke about Patricio. “This kid has been with us all the way. He is yelling on the sidelines. He is cheering us on, and to see him sprint on to the field, man that was the greatest. We were so glad to get to see him on the field.”

Head Coach Aarrhon Flores stated, “Man it was great to see these guys get the win. We have played a tough schedule. But to be the best, you have to play the best, and tonight we saw that payoff with a great team effort from our guys. I am proud of them.”

It was a great night of Cub football and a great night to see our military honored before the game.

Retired Green Beret Gary Cook, U.S. Army Veteran Chris Smith, U.S. Army Veteran Eric Morin, and Veteran Mac Moreno were all honored before the game and took part in the coin toss to start the game.

The BHS and BMS combined choirs performed the National Anthem.

The BHS Spirit of the Plains Band had a great half-time performance in preparation for their UIL Marching Contest which was to take place on Saturday at Lowery Field in Lubbock.

The Cubs will face Slaton next week on the road in a 7 p.m. contest at Slaton.
