The Mustang baseball team lost a heart breaking 2-1 defeat to Andrews on Tuesday night on the Black and Gold home field.

Andrews broke a scoreless game with a single run in their half of the 5th inning. The Mustangs came back to score their lone run in the top of the 6th inning before Andrews tallied what turned out to the winning run in the bottom of the 6th.

It was a pitching duel the entire game Andrews’ pitchers striking out seven batters and Mustang pitchers coming up with strikeouts.

Daven Blanco took the loss for the Mustangs going 4 and a third innings. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out two.

Luis Rodriguez started the game for Denver City. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out three.

Braden McGary, Rodriguez, Blanco, and Chad Dyck each collected one hit to lead Denver City Mustangs. Rodriquez had the lone RBI for the Mustangs. DC committed four errors while Andrews only had one.

The Mustangs had four more games over the weekend when they took part in the Midland Greenwood tournament. On Thursday they took on Regan County at 9am in Greenwood and at 2pm against host Greenwood. On Friday they played Big Spring at Security Bank Ball Park in Midland and on Saturday they wrapped up tournament play against Pecos in Big Spring.

They opened district play on Tuesday, March 12, in Abernathy. They will have their home opener on Saturday against Slaton. Game time is set for 12 noon.

DC is scheduled to play 4 more games this weekend in the Greenwood Tournament.
