A 10 run 4th inning paved the way for the Mustangs as they broke a two game skid in a 15-5 run rule game over Slaton on the Mustangs home diamond.

After the Mustangs broke out on top 4-0 in the first inning the Tigers came back to take the lead with five runs in the second inning. The Mustangs tied it up with one run in the third and then had the big 4th inning for the 15-5 lead and eventual win.

James Chatham came through with a double and two singles and two RBI’s to pace the Mustangs at the plate. Justin Riley and Ivan Villarreal both had two hits while Broedy Burris, Aaron Villarreal, Jeremy Castillo, Braden McGary and Cameron Garcia all had one hit each.

Riley and Castillo both finished with 3 RBI’s, Aaron Villarreal and Burris each had two and Ivan Villarreal had one.

Although struggling in the 2nd inning where he hit two batters, walked one and had to work around two errors that led to all five Slaton runs McGary went the distance in getting the win. He gave up five runs, one earned, on one hit, struck out six and walked two.

The win upped the Mustangs district record to 2-3 and left them tied with Slaton for 3rd and 4th place. Idalou defeated Brownfield 11-0 to claim first place while the Cubs are sitting alone in 2nd place.

The Mustangs will travel to Idalou on Tuesday in a 4:30 start.
