The Mustangs won three of their five games in the recently held annual Tamale Shootout.
Their wins included a 54-43 over Midland Lee JV, 55-8 thumping of Midland TLCA, and 49-18 drumming over Seagraves. Their two loses were against Littlefield 60-46 and 52-51 overtime loss to Lovington.
Leading the way against Littlefield, who are coached by former Mustang coach Rob Ogle, was Ferny Vega with 15 points. Adding points to the total was Anthony Anderson with eight, Elias Yanez tossed in seven, Aiden Wells added six, Jacob Freeman finished with five, Andres Ortega had three, and Erick Escobar tossed in two.
Against Lovington Ferny Vega had 16, Jacob Freeman finished with 13 which included a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into OT, Erick Escobar and Andres Ortega both netted five, Elias Yanez had four, Branden Lewis tossed in three, and Aiden Wells and Enrique Banuelas had two.
In the Lee win Jacob Freeman had the hot hand and finished with 21 points, Elias Yanez tossed in 10, Enrique Banuelas added six, Ferny Vegas netted five points, and Aiden Wells, Anthony Anderson, and Erick Escobar all finished with four points.
Against Midland TLCA Ferny Vegas and Enrique Banuelas led the way with 18 and 16 points respectively. Others adding to the total, where everyone scored at least one basket, Anthony Anderson had seven, Joseph Rameriz and Andres Ortega both had six, Aiden Wells, Jacob Freeman, and Elias Yanez all had four, and Erick Escobar and Branden Lewis both finished with two.
And in the Seagraves game Anthony Anderson and Erick Escobar led the way with 15 and 13 points each. Also adding to the total was Jacob Freeman with nine, Andres Ortega and Elias Yanez with four each, and Enrique Banuelas and Branden Lewis with two each.
The Mustangs were in Muleshoe on Tuesday night, will take part in the Andrews tournament over the weekend and will travel to Ft. Stockton on Tuesday that will wrap up their non-district schedule.
