The Cross Country teams were in Lubbock on September 28 were they ran at Mae Simmons. This was a high school only meet.
The varsity boys (3 mile run) competed with 21 other teams and 158 runners. Jacob Freeman led our boys’ team coming in at 46 with a time of 19:06.9. He was followed by his brother Spencer at 90 with a time of 20:28.9. Alec Martinez finished at 104 with a time of 21:44.1 (one of his best runs!). Then Mario Guiterrez came in at 117 with a time of 21:08.5, Jorge Ronquillo was 118 at 21:10.7 and Daniel Zurita was 136 21:59.2
The varsity girls (2 mile run) also competed with 25 teams but since the Fillies only had four runners they couldn’t “place” as a team. There were 177 total runners. Alezay Mishleau finished in the top 100 at 73 with a time of 14:46.7. Maria Aritza was 109 with a time of 15:18. She was followed by Adamari Torres with a time of 17:21.8 and Sam Escalante 18:51.2
The Mustang JV boys also competed but there were no official scores for them. Anthony Franco came in at 22:23, Julio Quintero 23:37, Michael 25:27, Joaquin Quintero 29:36, Alijah Barrientes 30:47, and Kanton Galvan 31:36.
Last weekend, both the Fillies and Mustangs competed in Sundown. “We don’t have times yet, but we did have several jr high and high school that came home with a medal,” Coach Celesta Garcia said.
All teams competed at the district meet on Monday, October 14, at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. “Our kids have been waking up early and running hard to prepare for this day,” Coach Garcia added.
