DCHS Seniors to graduate May 22

DCISD School Superintendent Gary Davis has announced 2020 graduation will take place on Friday, May 22, starting at 8pm with the exercises to take place at Mustang Stadium.

“We will abide by the graduation guidance provided by the Texas Education Agency and local government agencies,” Davis noted.

Davis went on to say each graduate will be provided 8 tickets for the event and there will be assigned seating for each family throughout the stadium.

He continued by noting each attendee must answer a series of health-related questions (provided by the state) before entering the stadium. Graduates will be receiving additional detailed information from DCHS Principal Rick Martinez.

“Thank you for your patience while we work out the details of this milestone event and for your support of what we are able to plan for your graduates in these uncertain days,” Davis added. “Congratulations to the DCHS Class of 2020! We wish you the very best as you leave us to make your mark in the world. Be Wisdom. Be Love. Be Courage… BeDC!”

Graduation ceremonies will actually get underway on Thursday with a “Senior Parade.” All seniors will line up at the high school in their vehicles on Thursday at 5:45 to start the parade. Organizers of the parade are asking for there to be one senior per vehicle. The parade route has yet to be determined at this time.

DCISD students were given an extra two-week spring break when local administrators decided to wait two more weeks before starting school after the Spring Break week. But shortly before the date to start back Governor Greg Abbott announced that all schools in Texas would be closed the remainder of the school year.

The governor has since announced loosening COVID-19 restrictions and has allowed business to open back up including barber shops and hair solons.

Those who are planning to attend the graduation should arrive early to answer all health-related questions.
