While there were no new updates concerning the Senior Citizen building, it was announced by Commissioner Ray Marion that a formal presentation would be held where the Houston-based oil and gas exploration and production company, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, would be donating $1 million.

The sizeable donation was offered up on Wednesday at the site of the soon-to-be construction Community Building in Denver City.

Also on the agenda was Tracy Woodward, the administrator for Shinnery Oaks, was in attendance where she gave her financial report for the month of March. She noted this was the first month where financial figures reflected the change in the staffing hours. Because of this change, which showed a reduction of the overtime hours, it was showing a slight profit for the month.

The normal amount of hours should be 80 hours per two weeks work schedule, but some employees were showing overtime hours when they were using hours from another employees scheduled hours. Several questions were asked by Commissioner Tim Addison concerning these hours.

Woodward also informed the court there were currently 58 residents in the facility.

Moving on to the next item hospital administrator Jerry Osborne was also in attendance where he explained an Addendum to a software license and support agreement between Perigen, Inc. and Yoakum County Hospital.

Osborne said the license concerned software for a baby monitoring system for the hospital. He informed the court the package would cost $14,429 plus a onetime installation fee of $31,000. In addition, there would be a $5,407 recurring fee for the next five years. The court unanimously approved the request.

The Court also spent a lot of time discussing the procedure they wanted to use to fill the Veterans’ Service/County Welfare position following the death of Gerald Baker who held that position.

After it was agreed the position should be filled the Court decided they should come up with a job description since most of the Commissioners did not know what all was involved with the job. County Judge Jim Barron asked each Commissioner to come up with their ideas for a job description and be ready to present those ideas to the Court at their next session on Monday, June 6 and then they would advertise for the job for the next two weeks.

It was noted the County had already received two applications and 4-5 more applications had been handed out to interested people for the position.

Judge Barron informed the Court donations for the 2016 Summer Reading Program at the Plains had been recently been received. Lea County Electric had donated $200 and Walsh Petroleum had donated $500.

There was no request for the disposal of county equipment, two-line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.

There were no updates on the Senior Citizen building, but Commissioner Ray Marion informed the Court there would be a formal presentation of a million-dollar donation from Oxy to the Court on Wednesday at the site of the facility that would be applied toward the new Community Building in Denver City.

In auditing and settling all accounts against the County the Court approved to pay $24,256.18 from the General Fund, $98.95 from Precinct #1, $386.87 from Precinct #2, $964.11 from Precinct #3, $2,004.54 from Precinct #4, $6,352.06 to Juvenile/TJPCA, and $208.22 to the Yoakum County Landfill for a grand total of $34,270.93.

In medically related items $88,842.67 was paid to the hospital fund, $18,241.87 to West Texas Medical Center, $916.98 to the Plains Clinic, $223.01 to Plains Lifestyle for a grand total of hospital bills of $108,224.53.

Other medically related bills included $481.39 to Home Health and $4,577.94 to the Dialysis Center for an overall total of $113,283.86 of medically related bills.
