Denver City gears up for election

Early voting for County Elections will start on Tuesday, February 16 and will end on Friday, February 26.

In Denver City voting will take place at the Branch office of the tax office and in Plains the early voting will take place in the County Clerk’s office at the Yoakum County Courthouse.

The county positions for this election will be the Sheriff’s office and Precinct 1 and 3 Commissioners.

Vying for the Sheriff’s position are Jerry Howard, Brad Taylor, David Bryant, and Raymond Sanchez. Sheriff Don Corzine is retiring at the end of his term.

Keith Durham is running against incumbent Woody Lindsey for Commissioner in Precinct 1 and in Precinct 3 Tommy Box, Chris Blundell, and Joe Martinez are all running. Current Commissioner Ty Earl Powell is also retiring.

Election Day will be on Tuesday, March 1.

On the local level there are positions available for both the City Council and the School Board.

Seats up for grabs on the City Council are currently being held by Barbara Qualls, Dalphene Benson, and Keith Mensch. Those who have filed for those seats include incumbents Dalphene Benson and Keith Mensch. Others who are seeking a seat include former Council member Patrisha Manzano and Mark Sherman.

On the School Board the positions currently held by Board President Russell Dial and Vice President Brad Woosley are due to expire. Woosley is the only one to file for his seat.

The deadline to file for a position on either entity is Friday, February 19. You may pick up your paper work at the City Hall or at the School Administration building.
