Denver City One Act Play Captures Third Place Honors

The cast and crew of Denver City’s One Act Play capped off a banner year by capturing third place honors at the state UIL contest on Wednesday.

Cast member Marlow Davis received Honorable Mention and named to the All Star cast was Chase Sandlin and Robert Mendoza.

Finishing as the top play was Jim Ned, who is also out of Region I, with their production of The Miracle Worker and finishing as the runner-up was Little River Academy with their production of Epic Proportions.

Denver City started this journey by finishing as one of the top three plays in district competition, bi-district, Area, and one of two plays in the Region to advance to state.

This marked the first time Denver City has advanced to the state meet since 1971 when the won the state competition.

Over 1,000 One Act plays started this journey back in January and from that number Denver City was the third best play in 3A this year.

Directing the play was Lisa Landry assisted by Melisa Dorsett.

Members included Chase Sandlin, Brice Brown, Kayla Martinez, Tommie Lynn Hicks, Denisse Saenz, Angel Castillo, Robert Mendoza, Abelardo Palma, Joel Palma, Taylor Dial, Braden Galvan, Oscar Hernandez, Marlow Davis, Maribel Burciaga, Veronica Villalobos, Grayce Riley, Sierra Banks, Erin English, Annabel Duke, Aaron Aremendariz, Kailee Galyon, Katie Hollon, Xylena Pillai, Josh Mills, Daron Pacheco, Ivan Esquivel.

            Brice Brown, Kayla Martinez, Robert Mendoza, and Taylor Dial were the senior members of the play.
