The talented junior set the pace on the Mustangs first possession when he scored on the third play of the game. That would be the first of his 215 yards rushing and 178 passing yards as the Yellowjackets couldn’t find a way to contain him for most of the night. With 11:30 showing on the clock Juan Herrera added the PAT and just like that the Mustangs were up 7-0.
After forcing Kermit into a three and out on their first position it didn’t take the Mustangs long to up that lead to 14-0. This time it was Uriel Rodriquez who found a big opening on his left side from 10 yards out. Once again Herrera was good on his PAT and with 5:19 left in the first quarter the Mustangs lead was now 14-0.
It didn’t take Kermit long to counter going on a 70 yard drive. With 2:53 left in the first quarter they scored and kicked the extra point that cut the Mustang lead to 14-7.
And once again the Mustangs used your rushing game to score their third touchdown again at the end of the first quarter. This time it was Alexia Mendoza who scored on a five yard run. Herrera once again split the uprights and with 1:01 left in the first quarter the Mustangs were now up 21-7.
Kermit was determined to keep the score close as they capped off an eight play drive with a touchdown at the 6:40 mark in the second quarter. This time the PAT was no good, but the Mustang lead had been cut to 21-13.
It was late in the second quarter when Sanchez threw back to back touchdown passes, one to Alejandra Chavarria and a second one to Rodriquez. Once again Herrera was good on his PAT’s and after Kermit scored one more time just before half the Mustangs went in at half time up 35-21.
The second half was all Denver City as they completely shut down both Kermit’s passing and running game. Sanchez scored his second touchdown at the 7:53 mark to make it 42-21, Rodriquez scored again after intercepting a Kermit pass, and Aaron Mendoza got into the scoring act on a nice 13 yard run to make it 56-21 with 9:35 left in the game.
Chavarria closed out the scoring when he intercepted a Kermit pass and scooted 35 yards for the score for the final 63-21 score.
In addition to the 215 yards gained by Sanchez, Alexis Mendoza finished with 69 yards and two touchdowns on five carries, Rodriquez had 58 yards and one touchdown on seven carries, and Aaron Mendoza finished with 36 yards and one touchdown on just two carries.
