ODESSA – Donald Ray Shanklin

Donald Ray Shanklin, age 64, of Odessa, TX, received his heavenly promotion on July 26, 2018, at his home. He was born July 26, 1954, in Levelland, TX, to Nelson Shanklin, Jr. and Oneita Paige Shanklin. Donald graduated from Seagraves High School in 1972.

Though Donald was baptized at the age of 12, he accepted Christ at the age of 35 and has hungered and thirst after God and His word ever since. He has served as an Usher, Deacon, and Teacher for many years. He accepted his calling to preach in 2004 and was ordained on July 22, 2006.

Donald Ray married his best friend, Marie Daniels Clark, January 26, 2007, at Friendship Baptist Church in Luling, TX, where he was the associate minister.

Donald was a professional Truck Driver for over 40 years. He worked for BFI, Proline and Southeastern Freightline. He was transferred from Austin to Odessa in March 2009 while working for Southeastern Freightline.

Donald was the Pastor of United Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Seagraves, TX, since April 2011. He loved his congregation family and the Seagraves community dearly. He became ill in June and his health declined rapidly.

Donald is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Nelson E. Shanklin, Sr. and Claudia Mae Shanklin and Ruth Johnson; maternal grandmother, Charlie Mae Franks; sister, Barbara Shanklin and his brother, Marcus Shanklin.

He is survived by Marie Shanklin, (wife); Mark Anthony Ward, (son), and Damian Lewis, (son), both of Hobbs, NM; Jackie Jackson (daughter); James A. Carter, (son), and Olivia Bell, (daughter), all of Austin, TX; Nelson Shanklin, Jr. (father), of Seagraves, TX; Oneita Shanklin, (mother) , of Austin, TX; Brenda McCrimmon, (sister), Nelson Shanklin, III and (Teresa), (brother), both of Seagraves, TX; Michael Shanklin, (brother); Tina Shanklin, (sister), both of Austin, TX; grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is also survived by a plethora of friends and co-workers and co-laborers, who are missing him and loved him dearly

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 28, 2018, at United Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Seagraves, TX with Reverend Norris Carr, Jr. officiant.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, TX.
