(I had the privilege of meeting Dorothy Terry when working at the nursing home, while her husband was there. The Terry family are truly good people. I saw that as I observed them there. The following was written by granddaughter Tina Terry. GK)

A local woman was honored with a small family party over the weekend as she celebrated her 100th birthday. Dorothy Terry is a true treasure and a delight to all her meet her.

Dorothy Corbitt Terry was born on February 21, 1921 in the east Texas town of Winnsboro. She travelled with her family by covered wagon to Lamesa, Texas in 1923 when she was just 2 years old. Dorothy graduated from Klondike High School and then married the love of her life, Fred Terry, on July 22, 1939 in Sparenberg, Texas.

After farming in Sparenberg, Fred and Dorothy moved their little family which consisted of two boys, Royce Gene and Loy Dee, to Meadow where they farmed and ran the local laundry. Hard work was a part of daily life and Dorothy will tell you that the work she put into raising their boys, farming cotton, raising their own food, keeping a home and working at the laundry contributed to her longevity.

After their boys were raised, Fred and Dorothy moved to Dalhart where they farmed and then retired. Once they were retired they spent several wonderful years traveling in their camper. They would spend winters in Arizona and summers in Cloudcroft.

Dorothy has a strong faith and love for the Lord. She has always been a member of the First United Methodist Church both in Meadow and Brownfield. Over the years she has been a quilter, enjoyed crochet and needlework, made clothes and enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends. She has always been an independent woman, attended church every Sunday and has never been in the hospital. If you ask her how she has lived so long, she will tell you it’s in her genes.

Dorothy has two sons, Royce Terry and his wife Bobbie from Meadow have 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Loy Dee and his late wife Susan from Waxahachie have 3 children and numerous grand children.

What a blessing Dorothy, Memaw to all her grandkids, has been to everyone who has had the privilege of knowing and loving her!
