Dwain Short

Lubbock- Ireland Dwain Short was born in Booneville, Mississippi July 23, 1923, to Lee and Gertrude Short. He passed from this earth on May 31, 2018, in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 94.

Dwain’s family moved to West Texas in 1925, where they farmed near Brownfield. They later moved to the Dixie community near Tahoka Texas. He continued farming with his parents until he entered the military in 1943, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps until 1945.

He later attended Draughn’s Business College in Lubbock where he met Emma Belle Sheets and they married in 1947. He was an accountant and retired from the State Comptroller’s office in 1985. Dwain enjoyed music and played the “fiddle” with a small group of friends in the back room of a local barber shop on Thursday nights. He was also instrumental in helping form the Northeast Little League in the 1950’s.

Dwain was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma Belle and a son, Larry.

He is survived by two sons, Bruce and Ricky Short both of Lubbock; sisters, JoAnn Nalle of Temple, Texas and Dorothy Parker of Des Moines, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:0 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2018, in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
