Elbert was born November 17, 1937 in Ontario, California to Ed and Josephine Estep. Elbert and Betty Jo Mallouf were married November 30, 1958 in Muleshoe, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elbert grew up in Gary, Oklahoma, and had lived in Muleshoe before moving to Plains in 1978 where he retired in 1993 after being employed by Texas Department of Transportation for 37 years. While living in Muleshoe he coached Little League Baseball for several years.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Delbert Estep; three sisters, Jean Mead, Elsie Foster, and Barbara Estep; and a daughter-in-law Debra Estep.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Betty Estep of Plains; two sons, John Estep of Grandview, Texas and Dean Estep and his wife Le Ann of Quinlan, Texas along with two grandchildren, Katy Estep and Shelby Estep.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Interim Hospice.
