Margie Elwauna (Hicks) Hudson, 89, of Brownfield went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. A visitation will be held at the Brownfield Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2019. Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 14, 2019, at The Crossing Church of God, 110 W. Hill Street, Brownfield, TX 79316 with interment to follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.

Elwauna was born to Loyd and Vera Hicks in Pampa on February 3, 1930. She attended school in Tokio and Plains. While at Plains High School she met her sweetheart, Earnest Glen Hudson. They were married on May 1, 1947, and were blessed with 5 children. Elwauna devoted her life to her husband, kids, and her church. Earnest and Elwauna purchased a farm west of Brownfield where they planted roots and raised their family. She was Earnest’s right hand in life, driving a tractor, building cotton modules, pulling cotton trailers to the gin, driving grain trucks to the elevator, and when things were all taken care of on the farm she would always have a hot breakfast, lunch or dinner ready. Elwauna loved working with kids as a Sunday School Teacher and cook. She enjoyed cooking and serving students as the manager of the cafeteria at Wellman ISD and working at Oak Grove Elementary cafeteria. She took great joy in baking. Many German Chocolate and Italian Cream cakes were baked, sold and eaten with joy. She spent many hours working in her garden with her children and grandchildren at her side. Her kids and grands all enjoyed shelling peas, canning, and any taste testing they could do. Elwauna’s lifelong love was her family, from her marriage of 61 years with Earnest to her great-great-grandchildren; family encompassed her life. She was a living testimony and faithful to God. She taught this to her family, lived it for all to see, and shared with everyone about her Savior. The Crossing Church of God was very special to Sister Granny and she didn’t miss church unless she was ill. She stayed in constant prayer for her family and friends, praising Christ and singing her beloved hymns.

Elwauna is survived by her son, Lynn Hudson Sr. and wife Janice of Brownfield; daughters, Karen and husband Lee Chumley of May; Pam and husband Mike Slaughter of Brownfield; Cheryl Crabtree of Lubbock; Twilla and husband Jack Rex of Alma; sister, Maudine Collier of Metalton, AR, brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Holloway of Huntsville, AR; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
