The Fillies completed their pre-district portion of their schedule by splitting their final two matches.

They defeated Littlefield last Saturday 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 on the road and then fell at home against a power hitting Monahans team 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16 on Tuesday.

The Fillies had little trouble handling a much improved Littlefield team as they jumped out to early leads in each set. The first set actually was back and forth before the Fillies went on a 16-5 run after the two teams were tied at 9-9.

The second set was all Denver City as they opened up a 13-4 lead before costing for the win 25-12 win.

In the third set the Fillies started on the down side of a 2-0 deficit before going on an 11-2 run to go up 11-4. That lead soon grew to 17-7 and stayed at the 10 point margin, before Littlefield came back to cut the lead to 23-16. But the Fillies closed out the set with a 2-1 run for the straight set win.

Denisse Saenz and Macey Jordan paced the Fillies offense with eight kills each. Marlow Davis and Holly Hemmeline had five each and Haylee Villarreal finished with four.

Defensively Chanie Wingo had eight digs, Jacee Billings had five, and Macey and Denisse both had four.

In the serving department Macey had four aces, Chanie and Jacee had three each, and Claire Seymour had two.

Against Monahans the Fillies started strong keeping a two to three point lead before the Lady Lobos tied things up at 10-10 and even took an 11-10 lead. With the Fillies on top 14-13 they gradually starting pulling away building a 24-17 lead. Monahans did go on a 4-0 run to cut the score to 24-21 before the Fillies put the first set away.

In the second set the two teams traded points before things were tied up at 14-14. But at that point the Lady Lobos started pulling away building a 19-14 lead. The Fillies made it close at 20-18, but Monahans won five of the next seven points for the second set win tying the match at one set a piece.

In the third set the Fillies fell behind 6-0 before scoring their first point. They did come back to cut the lead to 6-4 and then pulled even at 13-13. After Monahans went on a 7-2 run to open up a 20-15 lead the Fillies once again battled back to get within 20-19, but the Lady Lobos closed out the set with a 5-2 run.

The fourth set was all Monahans as they built a five point cushion and that soon grew to seven points at 16-9. Before long it was 20-11 and went to 10 points at 24-14.

Macy and Holly paced the Fillies with 18 and 12 kills respectively. Denisse had six and Marlow finished with four kills.

Jacee had an outstanding defensive game with 21 digs while Chanie had 12 and Macey had 11.

The downfall for the Fillies were their 30 hitting errors and eight service errors.

The Fillies started district play on Saturday when they hosted Brownfield in an 11 am start. On Tuesday they will host Lamesa with a scheduled 6:30 start and on Saturday, October 1, they will travel to Levelland with a 11 am start.
