Fillies Drop Contest to Slaton

The Fillies ran out of gas at the very end of their home game against Slaton and dropped a 33-29 decision to the visiting Lady Tigers last Tuesday.

The two teams battled back and forth throughout the contest with Slaton on top 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and 15-14 at halftime with both leads coming on last seconds shot.

Slaton jumped out to a 19-14 lead early in the third period before Moraima Villegas cut the lead to 19-16 on a short jumper from the side and Valarie Yanez tied it up on a 3-point basket. Slaton once again grabbed a 2-point lead before Moraima sank back to back baskets to give the Fillies s 23-21 lead. Slaton went on a 8-0 run to close out the third quarter and was on top 29-23 heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Once again the Fillies rallied with back to back baskets by Anahi Perez, Jayleen Villarreal, and Moraima to tie things up at 29-29 with three minutes left in the game. Slaton closed out the contest on a 4-0 run that accounted for the final 33-29 score.

Moraima paced the Fillies with eight points. Behind her was Valarie Yanez with seven points, Melissa Soto had six points, Jayleen finished with four points, and Caitlin Durham and Anahi Perez both tossed in two points.
