Fire Safety StoryTime at Plains Yoakum County Library

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, the Plains Volunteer Fire Department joined the StoryTime group for an informational time on fire safety. The time began with the usual pledges, calendar, and weather activities.

The group participated in a felt board story “Crazy for Cars,” which included a red fire engine. The book “I’m Brave” by Jim and Kate McMullan was the only book read. The group also discussed 9-1-1, Stop-Drop-and-Roll, as well as crawling under the smoke.

Chief Peter Redekopp displayed all the fireman’s gear, while Asst Chief Wes Holland presented information on checking fire detectors as well as details about the engines and uniforms. Others from the crew were Fireman K. Martin, Fireman R. Moya, and Fireman Fehr. These men also led StoryTime individuals in operating the firehose in a tennis-ball-on-the-cone challenge.

Before the firemen left, they awarded Tabitha Blessing and Ben McAdams as winners of the Hero Coloring Contest. The young attendees gathered with their heroes in front of the white firetruck for a picture.fire-prev-2016-color-winners
