img_20161109_142326_editStoryTime at the Yoakum County Library on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, was full of friendship. Each child was matched up with a stuffed animal friend to be kind to during the reading time.

The children did the pledges and then played a couple of felt board activities. “Find the Acorn” lasted through all of children, but “Little Dinosaur” was a quick solve. The group discussed the colder or cloudy weather as well as highlights of the week, including the StoryTime election results.

Last week the children listened to three stories about food and at the conclusion, voted for their favorite food. The choices were slop, tacos, or pizza. Pizza won with about 80% of the ballots cast. This week the theme was Thanksgiving: Part 1 – Pilgrims and Indians, introducing friendship.

The small group enjoyed the new stuffed animal friends and sat with them to enjoy three Pilgrim-themed books. A non-fiction book by Sally Lee titled “A Short History of Thanksgiving” provided a great historical opening to the literacy time. Bethany Roberts’ book “Thanksgiving Mice” is a colorful favorite. The last book was a partial sing-along: “1 Little, 2 Little, 3 Little Pilgrims” by B.G. Hennessy.

A classic Charlie Brown and Snoopy portion of Mayflower Voyagers was shown and then the children were dismissed with the action rhyme “Wave Good-bye.”  Before leaving, their stuffed animal friends were traded for a crackers bag so the animals can stay overnight in the library for a sleepover. To keep track of their friends’ fun, the StoryTime kids can see what they’re up to via our Facebook page.

Attending children were three families: Jazzmine Loera, Ben & Gershom McAdams, Tabitha, Selah, Kefira, & Gabe Blessing.

All ages are welcome at the Family StoryTime, which meets weekly at the Yoakum County Library in Plains at 10 AM each Wednesday. The group will not meet on November 23 and November 30. Find “Yoakum County Library Plains” on Facebook to stay tuned!
