Mr. George Rondel Kirkland, 80, from Denver City, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 25th.
He was surrounded at the time of death by his son, George and a very special caregiver, Sandra. It was a precious moment that was ordained from the Lord.
Mr. Kirkland, who went by the names of G.R., George, Rondel, Kirk, or Kirkland, depending on what circle you knew him in, was a special man who is leaving behind a true living legacy. G.R.’s life started with very humble beginnings in Graceville, FL. He moved out west for employment in the oil boom, and after years of hard work he built with his brother, Richard, G&G Tong Rental, an oilfield service company in Denver City. With the efforts of the Kirkland brothers and a great crew of team members they built a company that lived out a mission of We Care. Kirk’s hard work, drive and effort will be remembered by those who knew him as a man who knew how to get things done. Kirk will be remembered for many things but in the latter years of his life he focused on being around friends and family. He always enjoyed his daily times of drinking coffee with friends, going and visiting with others, his daily phone chats with family and never missing a moment with his granddaughters. He most certainly lived out a life of significance by investing his time into friends and family. That investment will continue to live on in the lives of those closest to him.
Mr. Kirkland is survived by his only child, George Kirkland, Jr., his daughter-in-law, Shannon Kirkland and two lovely granddaughters who were the joy of his life, Peyton and Paxton Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland is also survived by three of his siblings, with whom he had a very special relationship: Betty Kirkland Mitchell Palmer of Headland, AL, Claude Richard Kirkland and his wife, Celia of Pottsboro, Texas, and Janie Kirkland Franklin and her husband, Billy of Dothan, AL. He also was blessed to have 10 nieces and nephews who touched his heart in meaningful ways: Andy Mitchell (Lillian) of Headland, AL; Elsie Monk (Bobby) of Madison, GA; Patsy Mitchell Corbitt of Orlando, FL; Deborah Camp (Bobby) of Dothan AL; Jan Johnson (Tim) of Dothan, AL; Kaaren Rowland (Brent) of Whitewright, Texas; Doug Kirkland (Christie) of Sherman, Texas; Kristin Kirkland Hajny (Scott) of Durant, OK; Melinda Franklin Boyd of Orlando, FL; and Stephen Brent Franklin (Ann Marie) of College Station, Texas. Mr.
Kirkland was preceded in death by his father, Edward and his beloved mother, Rhoda Kirkland; his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette Kirkland Corbitt and S.A. Red Corbitt; and his nephew, Edward Lee Corbitt.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Ratliff Funeral Home in Denver City. Services will be held at First Assembly of God in Denver City at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 30. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Lonny Kane and BrightStar Care for their support and friendship.
