Gerald R. “Reidge” Butler

Gerald R. Butler (Reidge), 77, beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, and Brother, was called to his eternal resting place on October 22, 2021. He was born on June 21, 1944 in Colorado City, TX to Leslie Gerald (LG) and Hazel Anita Tankersley Butler. He married Alice Marie Hinkle on August 27, 1967 in Denver City, Texas.

He is survived by his son Steven Butler and daughter-in-law Christina Butler of Robesonia PA; daughter Christie Coons and son-in-law Robert Coons of Ft. Wayne Indiana; granddaughters Erica Negron; Alyssa Butler; Lanae Elias; grandsons Duston Butler and Tyler Coons; great-grandsons Ruben Negron; Donnie Butler; and Danyl Elias; great-granddaughters Hayzel Elias; Allysen Elias; sisters Sue Cotheren of Denver City, TX; and Shirley Cross of Big Spring, TX; brother-in-law Glenn Hinkle and sister-in-law Cheryl Hinkle of Artesia, NM; sister-in-law Cindy Butler of Collinsville, TX.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years Alice Butler, his son Douglas Butler, his parents Gerald and Hazel Butler, mother-in-law and father-in-law Luther and Mary Hinkle; brother Michal Butler of Collinsville, TX; sister-in-law Linda Sparks of Levelland, TX; Sister-in-law Gloria Smart of Sparta, TN.

Reidge was drafted into the US Army in November, 1965 and was trained as a communications specialist. After returning home in 1967 from Pirmasens, Germany he served in the Texas National Guard and received his Honorable Discharge February 1975.

Reidge was an auto mechanic around Brownfield for over fifty years having worked some time in the dealerships and independent garages he joined partnership in B&R Automotive for several years and eventually retired from Brownfield Magneto. During this time he served the community on the city council and through participation in Brownfield evening Lions Club, holding several offices in the local club and district cabinet. Reidge was involved in the Baptist churches around Brownfield, where he served as deacon and helped with many youth programs as well.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. A memorial service will be arranged for the spring.
