Well the regular season for girls and some boys basketball has come and gone and now its time for the playoffs.

We begin with the Greenwood Rangerettes as they have blown through district with an 8-0 District 5-4A Title. The Rangerettes have the potential to make some noise throughout the playoffs. Just because they are 14-16 on the season doesn’t mean they will fall early. Every one of their 16 losses came at the hands of highly ranked teams and 6A schools. Needless to say, the Rangerettes should be able to handle adversity throughout the playoffs. They take on Iowa Park in Anson tomorrow night Tuesday Feb. 12th at 6:30

The #18 Denver City Fillies have had a great season so far, and it isn’t done yet. After going to the State Tournament last season, the expectations for the Fillies were high, but being placed in a probably the toughest girls 3A district in the state didn’t help out much. However, what doesnt kill you will make you stronger. The Fillies came out of District 2-3A in the third place spot, all the while having to deal with #3 Idalou and #8 Shallowater and only losing by a total of 31 points combined in all four games against Idalou and Shallowater. Perhaps the Fillies are peaking at the right time and that would be good for a great playoff run. Tomorrow night Tuesday, Feb. 12th they take on #20 Canadian at Caprock High in Amarillo and tipoff time is 6:30 PM

The Plains Cowgirls have done their best this season just trying to get back to a postseason spot. That they did, and they are the fourth spot in district and will take on the number one seed Wink. One thing the Cowgirls have going for them in this first round of play is that District 6-1A is not a powerhouse and there are not any powerhouse teams. Most likely the Cowgirls will live to see an area round game. They take on Wink tomorrow night in Andrews at 7:00 PM

I’ve said this season that I feel that the Seagraves Lady Eagles are a dark horse in Region I-2A. Sure, they didn’t win district, but they sure came very close on Friday night during a district championship and seeding game when Sundown defeated the Lady Eagles by three to stake claim to the District 5-2A Title. Now its time to forget that loss and use it to better yourself for a post-season that could have the potential of a Regional Tournament in the future. Tonight Feb. 11th 8:00 PM in Wink, the Lady Eagles tipoff against Van Horn.

The Lady Cats of Wellman-Union have won themselves into the number two spot and runner -up in District 7-1A. Saturday evening the Lady Cats took on O’Donnell for the third time this season and this game determined who would be second and third place. The Lady Cats won 45-43 and at one point in this game, they were down by 14 points. With two starters who fouled out in the fourth period, other team members came to the rescue and helped the Lady Cats. WU will have to lose the slow start mentality because this is the playoffs and any team can beat any other team on any given night. The Lady Cats will tipoff tomorrow night Feb. 12th at 7:30 PM against Grady in Seminole.

The Ropes Lady Eagles won District 7-1A and will get a bye this first round of the playoffs.

In boys action, District 2-3A and District 5-2A are not done.

Brownfield and Denver City will take on each other in a very pivotal game for Denver City. The Cubs have already clinched a playoff spot, just don’t know if they will be second or third. Also, the Cubs have fallen out of the top 25 with their upset loss to Slaton 68-65. The Mustangs have made progress and things seem to be shaping up for them. All they need to do is win over Brownfield tomorrow night and for Littlefield to lose to Roosevelt. DC upset Brownfield once this season and Littlefield only beat Roosevelt by three in Littlefield. So, with that, we will just have to wait and see. Brownfield hosts Denver City tomorrow night Feb. 12th at 6:30 for the final regular season game.

The Seagraves Eagles clinch their playoff birth on Friday when Smyer lost to Plains and because Seagraves has the tiebreaker over Smyer in case the Bobcats decide they want to stick another thorn in the side of Tahoka. So when the Eagles go up against #21 Sundown in Sundown and if they lose, they won’t be left home next week when the boys postseason begins. Tomorrow night Feb. 12th Seagraves travels over to Sundown, tipoff time 6:15 PM

The Tahoka Bulldogs set out to do great things this season and they’ve done ok. Their only losses in district were to first place Sundown and last place Smyer, in which they host tomorrow night Feb. 12th. The Bobcats came close to ruining several teams season this year, but could not prevail. Even if Tahoka loses another to Smyer, they have already punched their ticket to the postseason. Tipoff time is slated for 6:15 PM tomorrow night in Tahoka
