An Idalou grand slam in the bottom of the 7th inning sent the Mustangs home with a disappointing 6-4 loss to district leading Idalou on the Wildcats home field on Wednesday.

Due to inclement weather on Tuesday the game was moved back to Wednesday.

The Mustangs were within two outs of stealing the win, but two singles and a misplayed fly ball loaded the bases in 7th inning that led to the game winning hit that Denver City fans thought had gone foul down the leftfield line. But after a conference between the two umpires it was ruled fair and the Wildcats fans started the celebration.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. They then squandered an opportunity to up that lead in the second inning when they loaded the bases with only one out. But the Wildcats got out of the jam with a force out at the plate followed by a strike out to end the inning.

In the following inning the Mustangs once again threatened with runners on first and second but a ground out to third also ended that inning.

The Mustangs did come up with what looked like an insurance run in the 5th thanks to two Wildcats errors to take a 4-2 lead.

Idalou scored single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings the cut the Denver City to a single run.

Luis Rodriquez started on the mound for the Mustangs striking out four of the first six batters he faced. A hit batsman leading off the third inning plated the first Idalou run. With one out in the sixth inning Broedy Burris came in and suffered the loss.

Rodriquez ended his stint with 8 strikeouts and only two base on balls.

Cameron Garcia, Jeremy Castillo, and Aaron Villarreal all had two hits in the game while Braden McGary, Luis Rodriquez, and Ivan Villarreal all finished with one hit.

Mustangs will host Post on Saturday and then travel to Roosevelt on Tuesday in a 5 pm start.
