Harvest Season Traffic

As many of you may have noticed harvest has started across the South Plains. This harvest season TownTalk would like to remind drivers to use extra caution when meeting or passing harvest equipment. Most of the time it is hard for the drivers to see behind them. Here are a few tips when driving around farm equipment:

  • Slow down.
  • Allow plenty of room for safe passage.
  • Be patient. Especially when you are behind someone. As previously stated it is hard to see behind equipment and there are a lot of blind spots on the bigger equipment.
  • If you do get stuck behind someone for a short distance enjoy the view around you. Seeing the fields white with cotton and peanuts being harvested is a beautiful sight to see.

For those of you that are actually driving the equipment, there are also some safety tips for being around traffic. Many of them are the same.

  • Slow down.
  • Pull over and share the road as best as possible to allow room for safe passage.
  • Be patient. Sometimes there is a lot of traffic. If you have to stop and let people pass, just stop and let them go by.

At the end of the day everyone wants to get where they are going safely but sharing the road is key. TownTalk would like to wish all of our farmers a safe and bountiful harvest to close out the 2016 year.
