Harvesting a Good Book

tractor-harvestYoakum County Library in Plains harvested a tractor-load of good books for StoryTime on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

The group was smaller but still smiley. Those in attendance included Luke Barkowsky; Payton Blair; Hope, Lanie, & Abigail Simpson; Cecilia Erazo; Sofia; Bryson Vargas; and Jazzmine Loera.

The flags and calendar were discussed, as well as the weather, and “Days of the Week” was joyfully sung. Being as it was the monthly-appointed “Dinosaur Day,” the StoryTime lady donned her Kleenex dino shoes and presented the felt story “Little Dinosaur, Little Dinosaur.”

The group also retrieved the egg shakers to sing “Popcorn Kernels” as well as “Five Little Hot Dogs.” Incorporating a multimedia experience, the group listened to best-selling author Eric Litwin read his new book “Groovy Joe: Ice Cream & Dinosaurs” via web download on the TV. A song “Can You Jump, Jump, Jump” transitioned the youngsters to the newly-released book “Wonderfall” by Michael Hall.

As tractors were discussed with a portion of the book “Harvest Time,” the children transitioned to the subject of farms. The book “Pete the Cat: Old MacDonald Had a Farm” provided for an opportunity to sing a book, and the children mimicked all kinds of farmyard animal sounds, taking cues from the pictures. Eve Bunting’s book “Hurry! Hurry!” closed out the tractor/harvest time readings.

The video clip, “Paw Patrol: Pups Save the Corn Roast,” entertained the children with a combination of last week’s fire safety theme and this week’s the harvest theme. After reminders and invitations to the Plains ISD’s book fair were handed out, the group dismissed.

All ages are welcome at the Family StoryTime, which meets weekly at the Yoakum County Library in Plains at 10 AM each Wednesday. Find “Yoakum County Library Plains” on Facebook to keep up-to-date with all the community events.
