John Ray “Corky” Black

obit_placeholder_08John Ray Corky Black, 81, of Denver City, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, surrounded by family. He was born July 16, 1935, in Minco, OK. He was the son of the late David Beard and Farna Mae Black. He was the owner and operator of Black’s Gin in Denver City, Texas, for over 30 years. He was very active in the community and the local Rotary Club. You could find Corky playing golf, dominoes, and supporting the Mustangs and the Red Raiders. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; and his sister, Davaleen Kovar. He is survived by his three children: Jan Black of Richardson, Texas, John and Lisa Black of Llano, Texas, and Joy and Bart Bevoni of Mansfield, Texas; his sister, Peggy Brewer of Temple, Texas; and four grandchildren: Dane and Emily Black, Carson and Brett Bevoni. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Denver City United Fund at PO Box 771, Denver City, TX 79323. Memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
