Funeral services for Joy Bowman, 70, of Denver City will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Marty Akins officiating. Interment will follow in the Denver City Memorial Park with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home.

Joy passed away Friday, Nov. 20, in Denver City. Joy was born Dec. 26, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to Rex and Thelma Reeves. She was raised in Hillsboro, Texas. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1967 and moved to Denver City to begin her career as a fifth grade teacher. She and Clinton Bowman were married on March 2, 1968, in Denver City and have resided in Denver City for 48 years. Joy taught reading in Denver City for 33 years and Lovington, N.M., for four years. She was a member of the Tejas Study Club, loved to read novels, and do crossword puzzles.

Joy was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma in 1985 and an aunt, Velma Pearl Miller in 1997.She is survived by her husband, Clinton Bowman; two daughters, Kendra Duncan and her husband Oran and Allison Marin all of Denver City; along with seven grandchildren, Britton Marin, Kallie Duncan, Bailey Marin, Kyler Duncan, Kenton Duncan, Blayne Marin, and Kambrie Duncan.

The family request donations of Children’s Books in memory of Joy which will be donated locally.

Family and friends will gather at Ratliff Funeral Home Monday evening 6 to 7:30 p.m. for visitation.
