The Lady Cub Volleyball team was in action at BHS Tuesday night for their season opener. The Lady Cubs made the playoffs last season for the 3rd straight year and are looking to keep that streak going under 2nd-year coach Miranda Rivas. The Lady Cubs return a very young varsity squad in the 2016 season and that was very evident in their home opener as there were times that the lineup had no seniors on the floor.

The Lady Cubs swapped games with the Bobbies losing games 1-3 but winning games 2-4. It was in game 5 that the Lady Cubs showed their true potential as they fended off 3 match points to tie the game at 14-14 before eventually losing 16-14.

Coach Miranda Rivas said after the game, “I saw some fight in the girls after losing game 3. In the past these girls would get their heads down and want to give up but tonight they didn’t fold under the pressure, they showed what they are capable of.” I have to say the biggest thing I take from tonight is the fight our girls had throughout the match that’s something we have been missing. We need to work on our service game and on being aggressive hitters. Those were our biggest weaknesses tonight and we will have to improve those areas if we are going to win”

The Lady Cubs will now head out on the road before returning to the Pit on August 30th.
