Littlefield Rallies Past Mustangs

The Mustangs let a sure win slip through their fingers on Tuesday when Littlefield rallied in the late innings for a 6-5 win on the Wildcats home turf.

With the Mustangs on top 5-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning the Wildcats, who was a state qualifying team from last year, came up with 5 runs to pull out the win.

Denver City tallied single runs in the both the 1st and 2nd innings and added 3 more in the 5th for a 5-1 lead. But Littlefield came back for the win when they plated 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.

The Wildcats started their rally when two consecutive errors along with a hit batsman loaded the bases with on one out. This was followed by a sacrifice fly, a double, a triple, and a single to account for all 5 runs.

The Mustangs almost pulled out a possible win in their half, but stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the game.

Cameron Garcia and Braden McGary paced the Mustangs 7 hit attack with two hits each. James Chatham, Ivan Villerreal and Luis Rodriquez each had one hit.

Both teams committed six errors that led to 8 unearned runs. All 6 of the Wildcats runs were unearned.

Rodriquez started the game for the Mustangs and went 5.2 innings and suffered the loss. He gave up all six unearned runs struck out 3 and issued just one base on balls. Villerreal came in and struck out the final batter but the damage had been done.

The Mustangs entertained Morton on Friday and then will take a small break before taking part in the Eunice tournament next Friday and Saturday.
