The Region I-3A Track Meet was held Friday and Saturday, April 23-24 in Abilene at Abilene Christian University’s Track & Field stadium and Brownfield has one competitor heading to the State Meet.
Nathaniel Luna qualified for the State Meet in the 200m dash by placing second and running his person record time of 22.29 seconds, plus breaking his own school record of 22.67 seconds. Other BHS regional qualifiers Ruth Lozano qualified for the finals in the 400m dash running a time of 61.89 and placing 5th in the finals with a personal record of 61.49. Luna also ran the 100m dash coming in 7th, Zavier Garcia placed 10th in the 200m dash with a time of 23.34 seconds, and Isidora Garcia took on the 1600 meter run with a new personal record of 6:06. earning 12th place. Meriah Gonzalez placed 12th in the triple jump in the sole field event for BHS.
Luna will compete in the 200m dash for the State Championship in Austin at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas. The State Meet is set to begin May 6 and run through May 8, 2021. Luna will be competeing against Brenen Thompson,(Junior) of Spearman with a time of 21.73, Cutler Zamzow (senior) of Goliad with a time of 22.01, Xavier Cox-Dunlap (senior) of Whitewright with a time of 22.10, Aidan Matthews (senior) of Maypearl with a time of 22.11, Tyler Smith (n/a) of Fairfield with a time of 22.13, Colby Lewis (junior) of Valley View with a time of 22.24, Dre’Lyn Washington (n/a) of Hemphill with a time of 22.25, and Rhett Kahlden (senior) of Lago Vista with a time of 22.35.
