I am having water issues. The water from my well has slowed to a crawl. If I run a sprinkler, I can’t use my washing machine. If I am using my washing machine, I can’t use my kitchen faucet. Where I was using two sprinklers on one hose last year to water half my yard, now I can only run one and it only waters about an 8 foot circle. And, to top that off, the one sprinkler that I have been using blew its head off last week. (I know. I can simply replace that sprinkler with another one.) The plumber thinks there is something blocking the line and they are working to fix that. Yet today, it remains a problem. Nothing is working like it should.
I was thinking how this is like the Christian life. The power is there and all the tools are in place, but something is blocking the line. We let life interfere and before you know it, we have gotten away from our source of water or power. We have let the things in life block the message we know God is trying to send to us. We ought to be watering a much bigger area than just an 8 foot circle. Our witness should go much further than that.
We have to stay in touch with God. We have to stay in His Word. We have to stay in contact with His people if we want to keep our line of witness and spiritual growth flowing like it should. He doesn’t move and He doesn’t change. But we all too often start putting serving Him second or third or way on down the line in importance. We stop listening for His voice. We stop spending time reading what He has to say to us in His Word. We stop gathering together with other Christians for worship. And before we know it, our flow has decreased to just a trickle.
If I don’t get my water pressure fixed, my grass and trees will die. If I don’t get my water fixed, my life will continue to be frustrating as I time my dish washing with my clothes washing. I will be like my sprinkler, and simply just blow my top!
If I don’t get my spiritual flow fixed, everything around me will suffer. I will be frustrated and short tempered. I will not be who He meant me to be. He intends us to be in conversation with Him daily. He intends us to keep that pipeline flowing.
How about you? How is your spiritual pipeline flowing? Have you let it get clogged up with the things of the world? Let’s get that line blown out and get back to being who God made us to be! It will make a difference!
