There are some really amazing stories in the Bible. Some are very unexplainable events. Miracles. The story of Moses leading the Children of Israel out of bondage is marked with one miracle after another. The one with which people are most familiar is of course crossing the Red Sea. I heard an old joke recently about that. A young boy was telling an older man about how great his God was. “God parted the Red Sea and the Israelites crossed over on dry land and were saved,” he said excitedly. The older man, a non-believer shakes his head and says, “Son, studies have shown that the Red Sea was likely no more than 10 inches deep at that time.” The young boy stood there a second and then shouted with enthusiasm, “My God is better than I thought! He drowned the entire Egyptian army in only 10 inches of water!”
Well, our God is pretty cool. He has performed many, many miracles down through time. I heard someone once say that God doesn’t do miracles anymore. Oh really? Have you ever had a near miss accident from which there was no way you should have avoided a collision? God’s miracles. Have you ever watched a baby taking their first steps and seen them fall directly into the corner of a coffee table and yet miss it? God’s miracles. Have you ever just held a newborn baby? One of God’s greatest miracles. Have you ever stood bedside as a wonderful servant of God was called home to Heaven and witnessed the joy on their face? A true miracle of God!
Maybe God is not parting the Red Sea today. But the reason He parted the sea then was because that was what the people needed. If He parted the Red Sea today, it wouldn’t really change the course of my life too much. But when I have needed a miracle, God has shown up with just the miracle I needed. And He does the same for you. I can tell you many stories of the miracles God has worked in my life. Especially since Mike Kelly has been gone. Man, did I ever need miracles then! And God showed up right on time with just what I needed, even if it wasn’t exactly what I was thinking.
My Red Sea is not the same as yours and certainly is not the same as the one the Israelites crossed in the Old Testament. But, believe me when I tell you, my God is just as busy in the miracle business today as He was in the Old Testament. You just have to have faith and believe in Him and in His plan.
Do you need a miracle today? Maybe it is right in front of you and you are just overlooking it. Pay attention. God has a miracle for you today. And it will make a difference!
