Do you do much thinking about the amazingness of God? I find myself thinking about this quite often. I guess it is because I have seen His hand in so many little things, aside from all the great big things, and it amazes me that God would have such an interest in the details of my life. Isaiah had a pretty good grasp of the immenseness of God, yet did not lose sight of the personalnesss of God either.
In Isaiah 40”12, Isaiah writes, “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and marked off the heavens by the span, and calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, and weighted the mountains in a balance and the hills in a pair of scales?”
Do you understand what he is writing here? Picture a God so vast that He is actually holding all the waters of the earth in the hollow of His hand. A God who just used a measuring tool to mark off the skies and all the stars. A God so amazing that He just measured out every single speck of dirt on this planet. A God so big that He sat the mountains in a balance to make them all just right. Who is a God like ours! There is no other who can boast of the enormity of our God! The winds obey Him. The stars shine for Him. He is the King of all eternity. Can I get an amen right about here?
But, then Isaiah goes on just a little later in his and says in Isaiah 45:3, “The LORD, the God of Israel who calls you by name.” The LORD, the God of Israel calls ME by name! He made all this cool stuff. He commands all these powerful things. He oversees everything in the universe day and night. And, oh by the way, He calls me by name. Do you know what this means for me and you?
It means He, who made all things and He, who made me, cares about my life and all that is going on it. Oh my goodness! There is no knowledge anywhere in any time period that is more valuable to me than the fact that my Heavenly Father knows my name and He hears me when I call on Him. He even hears me when I choose not to call on Him. I have some amazing stories in my life of my God being concerned with just the smallest detail of what is on my mind.
But, let me stand here before you today and say, just as David said in the Psalms, “I will give thanks to my God, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and wonderful are Your works and my soul knows this very well.”
This all-powerful God of the universe is also the all-powerful God of each of us as individuals. He made you and He loves you and He wants you to be His. He loves you so much that He gave His very own Son, just for you. Have you asked Him to be Lord of your life? Do it today and know the joy of knowing personally the One who knows you by name. It will make a difference!
