Mary Ruth Gist died Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

She was 89 and from Post, Texas. She was born to the late C.L. and Opal Devore, Dec. 2nd, 1927, in O’Donnell, Texas.

Mary graduated from Welch High School and worked at the Lamesa Hospital. She married John William Gist in 1946 in Pampa, Texas. They lived in Denver City before settling in Post, Texas, in 1957. Mary was a member of The Church of Christ in Post.

Our Nanie loved making travel scrapbooks from all the trips she took over the years. She also enjoyed singing and making embroidered custom quilts for everyone she loved.

Mary is survived by three children: Linda Lewis and her husband, Edwin of Lubbock, Texas; Sherry Owen and her husband, Benny Owen of Abernathy, Texas; and John David Gist and his wife, Vicki from Canyon. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Scott Lewis and his wife, Traci; Randy Lewis and his wife, Cassie; Jennifer Gregg and her husband, Larry; Gentry Owen; Lynlee Roe and her husband, T.J.; Carrie Day and her husband, Eddie; Marc Owen and his wife, Debbie, Ryan Gist and his wife, Cara; and 15 great-grandchildren: Laken and L.G. Lewis; Jayton, Riley, Trent and Zack Lewis; Evan, Keaton, Sailor and Alexandra Gregg; Blake Roe; Bryanna and Dylan Day; Cagen Denison and Bailey Hagler and her husband, Wesley; and Kaden and Abbott Gist. She was preceded in death by her sister, Paula Jean Devore and two brothers: Jerry Don Devore and Jerry Lavan Devore.

The funeral will be held at the Church of Christ in Post, Texas, on Friday, June 16, at 10 a.m. and officiated by Travis Sweet. Burial will follow in the Terrace Cemetery in Post under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home.
