On Monday night May 16, 2020 Meadow ISD hosted their annual Athletic Banquet honoring and celebrating their athletes accomplishments.

Coach Josh Conner, Head Football/AD began with the Football Awards.

  • Most Improved: Paul “Polly” Franco
  • Newcomer of the Year: Logan Castaneda
  • Defensive MVP: Jimmy German
  • Offinsive MVP: Kaleb Sanchez
  • Football MVP: Niko Castaneda

After Coach Conner announced the awards, Lacy Cox Guzman presented the Johnny Cox Memorial Scholarship which went to Brady Parker.

Coach Brandon Flores was next with the boys basketball awards.

  • Most Improved Player: Dylan Fabila
  • Newcomer of the Year: Taylor Caswell
  • Defensive MVP: Tate McBee
  • Offensive MVP: Jimmy German
  • Basketball MVP: Wes Woodard

Coach Flores continued with the boys Track & Field awards.

  • Newcomer of the Year: Trevor Brockway
  • Most Improved: Wes Woodard
  • Boys Track & Field MVP: Niko Castaneda, Niko went to the State 1A Track & Field Meet in Austin to compete in the shot-put earning the fourth place spot in state with a 47’5.25 throw.

Next was Coach Nick Tarr to present the girls basketball awards.

  • Newcomer of the Year: Abigal Gonzalez
  • Most Improved: Aracely Arita
  • Defensive MVP: Fayth Haile
  • Offensive MVP: J’Leigh Tarin
  • Basketball MVP: Kiera Acosta

Coach Tarr would continue with the girls Track & Field awards.

Next Coach Kole Vedder would present the Cross Country awards for both boys and girls.

  • Girl Newcomer of the Year: Kate Smith

  • Boy Newcomer of the Year: Xander Haile
  • Boy Cross Country MVP: Wes Woodard

To present the Golf awards for both boys and girls was Coach Jonathan Alaniz.

On the girls side, the Lady Broncos would earn the District Title. The boys golf team punched their ticket for the second season in a row to the Class 1A State Golf Tourney where they would place 9th overall.

Coach Conner presented the Powerlifting awards for both boys and girls.

  • Newcomer of the Year Girl: Maggie Ridenour
  • Most Improved Girl: Morgan Hurst
  • Powerlifting MVP Girl: Nyomi Alvarado
  • Newcomer of the Year Boy: Logan Castaneda
  • Powerlifting MVP Boy: Niko Castaneda. Niko won state in powerlifting in his division and weight class.

Coach Conner moved on to award the Fighting Heart Awards for one girl and for one boy. Coach Conner said, “This award is not just about athleticism and skill, but it also involves the off the field, track, and court attitudes and grades.”
