Michael Travis Gauntt, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving children on September 10, 2016. He was born to Johnie Mae Jenkins Gauntt and Carl Edward Gauntt on January 14, 1948 in Houston, Texas. He was the youngest of three children.
Michael (Mike) graduated with honors from Brownfield High School in Brownfield, Texas in 1966. He attended Texas Tech University where he studied Journalism. In 1969, he enlisted the United States Army and served a tour in Vietnam. �In 1994, he retired as an E-8 Master Sergeant after 24 years of military service. During his retirement, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Education. In his free time, Michael was an avid reader. He also enjoyed watching football and FOX News and playing board games- especially Chess.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two sisters, Linda Powers and Georgia Altman.
Michael is survived by one daughter, Teresa L. Gauntt Costley (Edward) and one son, Jeffrey; two grandchildren, Alexandra M. Gauntt and Conner R. Costley all of Corpus Christi, Texas and other nieces and nephews whom will cherish his memories.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
