For the 6th consecutive year the Denver City high school band had earned Sweepstakes honor following competition held last Wednesday. This also marks the 34th overall Sweepstakes Trophy earned by all Mustang bands over the years.

To earn this award a band must receive Division I rating in a Concert and Sight-Reading during the spring along with a Division I rating during the marching season from last fall.

Performing in a non-air conditioned auditorium at Wayland Baptist University, the Mustang band received Division I ratings from all six judges.

“The band’s performance was amazing considering the conditions that they had to perform under,” said director Jerry Rodriquez. “The band represented DC with class!”

Mr. Rodriquez went on to give a special thanks to school superintendent Gary Davis, Athletic Director Steve Taylor, and high school principal Rick Martinez for attending the contest.

“I also want to thank Olga Reyes and the DC Band Boosters for the incredible job they have done this year supporting these fine young men and women,” Rodriquez continued. “And a special thanks to my colleagues for their hard work and dedication to the student’s success! Please congratulate the band members on a job well done!”

Assisting Rodriquez this year has been Brendon and Samantha Muller.
