After their second straight consolation championship at the Andrews tournament, the Mustangs will be going into the Christmas break on a four game win streak.

In the Andrews tournament the Mustangs opened pool play with a 58-52 loss to host Andrews. Estevan Mendoza and Mathew De La Rosa paced the Mustangs with 17 and 10 points each. That loss was followed with a 64-54 loss to a very athletic Amarillo Caprock team. In the last game of pool play the Mustangs rebounded with a 57-45 win over Kermit. Once again it was Estevan and Mathew that led the way with 24 and 16 points.

In the consolation championship game the Mustangs defeated Grady 57-45. Estevan finished with 23 points and Mathew tossed in 12 points. Both Estevan and Mathew were named to the All-Tournament team.

Following the tournament the Mustangs traveled to Seagraves where they defeated the Eagles 58-48. Estevan tossed in 27 points, Riley Boyd had nine points, and Josh Mills finished with eight points.

And in their final game before the Christmas break on Tuesday night the Mustangs traveled to Snyder where they defeated the Tigers 45-33 in a defensive game.

The Mustangs defense allowed two points in the first quarter and only nine total points in the first half of play.

The Mustangs were led offensively by Estevan with18 points and Nathaniel Cruz with nine points.

The Mustangs will carry a 10-5 into the Christmas holidays and will take part in the Littlefield tournament starting on December 29. Their first action will be at 8 pm that day when they will take on the winner between host Littlefield and Bovina.

“We are looking forward to a rest during the break, but will be ready to go back to work starting with the Littlefield tournament over the holidays,” Coach Abraham Garcia said.

Following the tournament the Mustangs will travel to Monahans on Tuesday, January 3 and then will return home on January 10 when they host Midland Greenwood. District play will start at home on January 13 against Seminole.
