The Mustangs used a big 2nd and 3rd quarter to overcome a slow start that led to a 55-50 win over Idalou on Tuesday on the Wildcats home court.
Idalou claimed a 10-8 first quarter lead before the Mustangs found the range in the second quarter with 20 points and then outscored the hometown team 17-7 in the third quarter to earn the win.
Mathew De La Rosa led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points while Nathaniel Cruz and Estevan Mendoza were also in double digits with 10 points each. Also adding points to the total was Emmanuel Zubia with seven points, Josh Mills tossed in six points, Damian Gutierrez chipped in four points, Riley Boyd had three points, and Nick Garza finished with two points.
The Mustangs are hosting their annual three-day tournament over the weekend before traveling to Muleshoe on Tuesday. They will then take part in the Midland Oil Man classic next weekend.
