The two teams were tied at 8-8 before the Tigers ended the first quarter on top 10-8. The Tigers were up 14-13 midway through the 2nd quarter and that was as close as the Mustangs would get. The home town Tigers closed out the quarter on a 7-2 run and went into halftime up 21-15.
The Mustangs could only come up with 3 points in the third quarter and were on the short end of a 30-18 score heading into the final 8 minutes of play.
The Tigers would open the final quarter on an 8-2 run in the first three minutes to extend their lead to 38-20 and then closed on the game on a 11-9 run for the final score.
Kade Patterson and Estefan Mendoza led the Mustangs with 10 points each. Efran Villegas added 6 points and Matthew De La Rosa finished with 3.
The Mustangs finished the first half of district play with a 3-2 record while Slaton finished at 4-1.
Number 2 state ranked Brownfield will come to the Dag on Tuesday and then the Mustangs will host Roosevelt next Friday.
